VPIX Medical, a digital biopsy diagnostic platform company, has successfully secured external funding from major institutional investors, including Korea Investment Partners and Korea Development Bank, to strengthen its operating capital.
According to the venture capital (VC) industry on August 26, VPIX Medical recently raised approximately KRW 9.5 billion. The investment round included KDB Capital, L&S Venture Capital, Korea Investment Partners, Korea Development Bank, Hana Ventures, and Daejeon Investment Finance.
The investment was made through the purchase of 172,720 redeemable convertible preferred shares (RCPS) issued by VPIX Medical at KRW 55,000 per share.
KDB Capital and L&S Venture Capital jointly invested KRW 1 billion through the KDBC-L&S Digital Innovation Investment Fund, which they co-manage as general partners (Co-GPs).
Korea Investment Partners invested a total of KRW 3 billion through two funds: KRW 2 billion through the Korea Investment Core Competency Leverage II Fund and KRW 1 billion through its Singapore-based KIP SOUTHEAST ASIA FUND.
Hana Ventures also invested a total of KRW 2 billion through two funds, contributing KRW 1 billion each through the Hana WISH Value Growth Fund and the Hana Tech Value-Up Fund II. Korea Development Bank and Daejeon Investment Finance made investments through their proprietary accounts.
Founded in December 2016, VPIX Medical is the developer of cCeLL, a digital biopsy diagnostic platform. Applying specialized microscopy technology, cCeLL enables real-time visualization of target tissue and transmission of digital data to pathologists, helping reduce the burden on patients.
This allows medical professionals to make immediate intraoperative assessments and provide patients with more appropriate treatment.
The cCeLL platform has been recognized as an innovative technology for enabling real-time biopsy during surgery, contributing to faster treatment and improved diagnostic accuracy. In Korea, the technology has received Health New Technology (NET) Certification, while internationally it has also obtained approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The platform also provides clinical images from various organs, supporting medical professionals in making more accurate diagnoses and ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes.
VPIX Medical is currently conducting a multicenter clinical trial for cCeLL - In vivo, a Class II medical device designed for direct contact with the human body. The company has also recently entered into collaborations with Samsung Medical Center and Korea University Anam Hospital based on its digital biopsy technology, aiming to accelerate clinical application and research outcomes.
